boltcoat®coatings in the workshop
The purpose of a coating is to keep the ratio between the tightening torque and the clamping force constant over a constant coefficient of friction. Friction and wear are not material properties but system properties. A closer look at a friction system soon makes it clear that any change in this system will have an effect on friction and wear.
With bonded coatings and the associated application methods, we are able to create constant and reproducible conditions. The solid lubricants (molybdenum disulfide, graphite, PTFE, combinations of these substances and the like) integrated in the sliding coating system absorb the load peaks that occur when friction surfaces run in. The otherwise abrasive effect of the roughness tips is simply converted into forming work. This results in an even and smooth surface appearance and the specific surface pressure is significantly reduced. This process is made possible by the firmly adhering thin (loaded approx. 2-5 μm) bonded coating layers with a high pressure-resistant solid lubricant content.
Laminar solid lubricant system
With the use of bonded coatings, an optimal surface run-in can take place at high surface pressures and slow friction speeds.
